Case Studies

June 2009 - Induction Street Light Retrofit:

In early June 2009 Green Energy Concepts had a chance to assist a local municipality here in New York State with a  street light retrofit project.  The goal was to change out approximately 6,000 current 250-watt high pressure sodium street light fixture heads to new 120-watt induction cobra street light heads.  With a budget of $2.4 million dollars, the goal was to reduce the electric lighting bill by half and was achieved.  The city now is benefiting from a $480,000 savings annually and a 4.8 year return on investment.  With the life expectancy of induction light bulbs of 100,000 hours or more, the city will gain a positive cash flow of $7.3 Million dollars over the remaining 15.2 years of bulb life!

State and local stimulus money assisted in this project.  Jobs were created and a city reduced their carbon footprint substantially.  This is a perfect example of how municipalities can save with all the current benefits and incentives available nationally.

July 2009 - Office Lighting Retrofit:

In July of 2009 Green Energy Concepts was asked to  perform an energy audit for a professional office location.  The company currently occupies a complete floor in Manhattan, NY over 40,000 sq/ft.  During the lighting energy audit a total count and description of each bulb type or fixture they currently use was documented. A full examination of their electric bill was necessary to understand their electrical usage each month.  Green Energy Concepts was able to compile a list of suggested bulbs to retrofit and upgrade each current fixture they had with new energy efficient models.  The total count of bulbs to be considered was approximately 1300 units.  It consisted of a mix of fluorescent tube lights as well as incandescent bulbs of varying wattages.  After the computations were completed the following savings are expected:

Cost Per Month Bill REDUCTION:  $5140.00 / Month

Return on Investment Time Frame:  1.6 Years

Positive Cash Flow Generated After ROI:  $545,000  (over life of bulb)
